What Are Some Non-Geographic Numbers In The UK?

The business needs of the modern world are completely different from what they were in the past. In the modern world, effective and fast communication has become very important because of the fact that business competition has become very high, and timely communication is needed to ensure smooth operation of the business. A number of other facilities being commonly provided by many organisations also require efficient communication facilities.

For example, many companies offer non-geographic phone numbers to their customers, which are a very effective tool to help customers spread over a large area. These numbers are not linked to a specific line, and they can be called from any location in the world. When such a number is called, a computer system decides where the call should be transferred.

Different types of non-geographic numbers are used in the UK. A non-geographic number that starts with 03 is charged as a landline call. The numbers starting from 0500 are free to call from landline phones. The charges of calls made through mobile phones vary from one mobile network to another.

Alternatively, one category of Non Geographic Numbers is 080 xs. The characteristic which makes these numbers special is that they are free of cost if dialled from a landline. However, the rates from mobile phones may vary from company to company.

For those who are using pagers instead of mobile phones, 076xx is the Non Geographic Number. These numbers are basically of two types. The first type is fixed call cost pagers. In this type, the subscriber has to pay a fixed amount for his/her service and hence have to pay a rate which is set by the company in addition to another per minute rate. The other type is the subscription types which are cheaper to call and charged at regional rates.

One exception of 076xx numbers is 07624. Along with numbers such as 075xx, 077xx, 078xx and 079xx, all these Non Geographic Numbers combine to form mobile numbers. The rates for all these numbers are different and unknown to most of the people. International calls made by these numbers can be expensive.

Some non-geographic numbers of mobile phones start with 075 to 079. The exact cost charged by the caller for calling these numbers is unknown. It is assumed that these numbers charge more as compared to the general mobile charges of the UK.

The numbers that start with 080 are free numbers, if a person calls from a landline number; while these cost premium rates, in case of calling from a mobile phone. Some companies and departments of the government use non-geographic numbers starting from 0842 to 0845 and from 0870 to 0873. The charges of calls on these numbers also vary. The numbers starting from 09 are called premium numbers and these numbers have many uses.
