There are many different types of scams that promise computer users that they can make lots of money from home, then end up taking the users’ money or personal information instead.

Scammers target people of all ages from all sorts of demographics. Though many scams are meant to draw in a certain group of people, for example college students or senior citizens, everyone should always be aware that they are susceptible. The range of scam types is also broad. Pretty much any situation can be the subject of a hoax. One common one is an e-mail promising the victim that they have won a large sum of money or received a large inheritance, and that they need to provide their bank account or social security number in order to get the cash. The operator of the scam then takes the information and uses it to remove money from the victim’s account or steal their identity. Another example is companies offering ways that the victim can make money, but requires them to provide a great deal of personal information or to pay a sum of money up front. Computer users should remember that they should never have to pay money to earn money in an online job.

In addition to being wary, there are other ways that one can avoid becoming the victim of a make money scam. It is generally a good idea to not open e-mails when one does not recognize the sender’s name, and to avoid giving out sensitive personal information online.
