New York Attractions, Excitement At Every Corner
Many families are staying close to home this year and vacationing in the United States instead of traveling abroad. One of the top vacation destinations is New York Attractions because it is the city that never sleeps and there is something for everyone. The kids will enjoy the parks, museums and the Broadway shows, while Mom and Dad will enjoy many of the same events along with some designed just for grownups.
Even if one tired, they couldn’t miss the tallest building, the Empire State Building and it’s a ‘must-see’ on nearly everyone’s list. There are stairs, escalators and elevators to carry a person to the top and the observation deck and its generous view of the city. For those who do not care for the height, they could shop at one of the many little shops and boutiques on the main floor. If they are not shoppers, they will have to vacate the building for safety precautions; no one is allowed to stand around the building.
Possible one of the most photographed and most famous parts of the city is Times Square. It has been featured in hundreds of movies and television shows. Everyone is familiar with the large teletron video screen and all the advertisements in addition to the decorative red wire fence down the middle of the street. There are many people and things to do and see in this center of the city. Probably seeing a show, shopping or eating is the most popular activities in this area.
The entire family could get dressed up and take in a Broadway show. There are the old standards that have been on Broadway for many years, many of them upbeat musicals that kids would love. And then there are the newer plays written by some of today’s best talents. They are the plays that make people think and take notice of the world around them. One could even stand next to the back stage door and get an autograph or two if so inclined.
One of the better tours that people should not miss is the Ellis Island tour. There is a boat that brings people out to the island and then many special, knowledgeable guides that will take people on tours of the buildings where some of their family might have first entered the United States. It is a touching tribute to those people who come to our country now for a better life and don’t know the customs or speak the language yet.
The great Niagara Falls is not within walking distance, one must drive a short distance outside of the city to get there but it is worth the trouble. It is a beautiful waterfall and there are plenty of rain-ponchos on hand so no one will get wet. Pictures taken at the falls often feature a rainbow and sometimes a wedding or two is taking place depending on the day. A small boat will take tours of people up to the falls at the bottom and then they could walk behind the falls for a little ways. There is a view from the top of the falls and one from the bottom of the falls. There is also a souvenir shop.
The Statue of Liberty is another place a lot of people want to visit when they come to this unique city. Some people tour the famously large statue by helicopter and they can see other sites as well. Some portions of the statue are open to the public while other areas are closed for safety reasons.
One of the most memorable and endearing sites of the many New York attractions is Ground Zero. They are currently building on the site and there are several make-shift memorials in addition to a larger memorial erected the year after September 11, 2001. Next year will be the tenth anniversary of this Nations largest terrorist attack on our soil and people come from all over the world to view what once was. It is an honor and a privilege to leave a flower or a note on the fence just so people remember and know they are still being thought of.
